Settings

A walk through every section of the Settings panel, including language, providers, permissions, memory, backups and reset.

Settings holds the things that apply to the whole app: which AI providers your agents use, what each agent may access, what they remember, and how your data is kept. Open it with the gear icon in the top bar or Ctrl+,. It slides in from the right, and Esc closes it.

The panel has six sections: Agents, Permission Matrix, Providers, Memory, Data management and General.

Agents

This section only shows how many agents you have. Agents are created and edited on the Organization page: click Open in Organization to go to Organization → Agents. See Organization.

Permission Matrix

The Dynamic Permission Matrix is a table with one row per agent and one switch per permission:

Permission What it allows
Read files Read and search files in the project folder.
Write files Create and edit files.
Terminal Run shell commands with your user’s rights.
Network Fetch web pages and search the internet.
Browser Not applied yet: agents can’t use the in-app browser.
Require approval Wait for your approval before starting each task (all providers).

The Paths column lets you add extra folders an agent may use besides the project folder (Add folder). Extra folders apply to Claude Code agents. How is it applied? explains how the switches turn into the CLI’s tool list or sandbox mode.

Below the agent table, Connection permissions sets server and database access per agent and connection. The default is no access. Manage connections opens Organization → Connections.

The same switches appear on each agent’s page under Organization → Agents → Permissions. Both places stay in sync and save instantly. The details are in Permissions and Connections.

Warning: An agent with Terminal turned on can get around file and network limits through the shell. Turn it on only for agents you trust.

Providers

Providers are the models and CLIs behind your agents. The list shows each provider, its model and, for API providers, whether a key is saved (key ✓ or no key). If you have no providers, agents run in demo mode.

  • Add provider opens the form. Choose Claude Code CLI, Codex CLI, Anthropic API, OpenAI API or Demo (simulation), then Save and test.
  • For a CLI, the form shows ● installed or ○ not found. Leave CLI path (empty = find on PATH) empty unless the CLI lives somewhere else. Sign in once in a terminal with claude auth login or codex login.
  • For an API provider, paste the API key. It is encrypted with your operating system’s keychain and never shown again in the interface.
  • Model is a dropdown with a Recommended group. With an API key it also lists Other models on your account. Custom model name… lets you type a model that isn’t listed yet.
  • Make default picks the provider used by every agent that has no provider of its own. You can give a single agent another provider and model in Organization → Agents → Model.

Setup for each provider is covered in Providers.

Memory

Persistent Memory is the context the lead and agents keep between runs. Switch the scope between Organization-wide and This project, search with Search memory…, add a record as Shared (all agents) or Only one agent, and delete records you no longer want. See Memory.

Data management

All data lives in one SQLite file on your computer. This section shows how much space it uses and lets you clean up, back up and reset. Open folder opens the data folder.

Usage

Cards summarize the Database, Agent logs, Organization memory, Backups and Files with their sizes and counts.

Cleanup

Under Projects, each project shows its counts (tasks, messages, logs, memories, decisions, reports, files). Clean up… lets you pick what to delete: Project memory, Chat history, Run records, Reports, Decisions, Tasks and Files. Keep decision memory keeps accepted decisions in memory. Cleaning one project doesn’t touch the others. Agents, teams and the files in the project folder are always kept.

If you select Run records or Tasks, running jobs in that project are stopped first.

Under Organization and records, Organization-wide memory can be cleaned the same way, with an option to Keep decisions.

Log retention

Log retention deletes agent logs older than 7, 30 or 90 days, or 1 year. The default is 30 days. Old logs are removed at startup and every 6 hours. Apply now runs it immediately, and Forever turns it off. Agent terminal transcripts are logs too, so they are trimmed by the same rule.

Backups

Back up takes a snapshot of the database: settings, agents, organization, projects, tasks and memory. The last 10 backups are kept, and one is taken automatically before a reset. Each backup in the list can be restored or deleted.

Restore first backs up your current data, then replaces it with the chosen backup and restarts the app. Backups from older versions are upgraded when the app opens. A damaged backup, or one made by a newer version, is refused.

Note: Backups cover the database only, not your project folders. On Windows, saved API keys in a backup can only be decrypted by the same user on the same computer.

Factory reset

Both reset options stop all running jobs, take a backup first, and ask you to type RESET to confirm.

  • Delete work data removes tasks, chats, logs, decisions, reports, memory and file records of all projects. Agents, permissions, organization, teams, projects and their folders, providers and settings are kept.
  • Reset everything returns the app to its freshly installed state. Agents, organization, projects, providers and saved API keys are deleted too. An empty organization and one empty project remain, and the setup wizard and Guide open again.

Neither option touches files in project folders or the backups folder. If you reset by mistake, restore the automatic backup from Backups.

General

General holds the app-wide behaviour:

  • Project folders: every project has its own folder. Open project settings takes you there. See Projects.
  • On startup: Show project picker asks which projects to open, Last open projects reopens the tabs from your last session.
  • Autopilot: idle agents pick up the next tasks on their own.
  • Lead review: finished work is reviewed by the lead and approved or sent back for revision.
  • Setup wizard: Restart shows the first-run screen again.
  • Language: English or Turkish. The default, System, follows your operating system’s language and falls back to English. The change applies at once, with no restart. Default names you never edited, such as the root “Organization”, switch to the new language. Messages and records already saved stay in the language they were written in.

This section also shows the app version (Agentbits v<version>) and the location of the database file. Include the version when you report a problem.

Where your data lives

System Data folder
Windows %APPDATA%\Agentbits
macOS ~/Library/Application Support/Agentbits
Linux ~/.config/Agentbits

Backups are stored in the backups folder inside it. To use a separate data folder, for example for testing, start the app with the AGENTBITS_DATA_DIR environment variable. See Install.
